In this 22-minute bass fishing instructional video, Bassmaster Classic champion and Angler-of-the-Year Mike "Ike" Iaconelli is on the water to share more secrets on how to catch bass. Specifically, Ike is talking about a technique, known mostly in the North and North East, called "snapping a tube". It's a phenomenal technique for catching smallmouth, but it's also effective when fishing for largemouth and spotted bass. This technique uses a 3-4" Thin Wall Tube Bait and Elongated 90 Degree Tube Bait Jigheads.
What is snapping a tube?
Snapping a tube can be compared to stroking a jig, both techniques generate strikes from bass that aren't actively feeding. There are key differences in the two techniques, and Mike discusses them in this video, and what makes this bait and technique so natural and productive. Iaconelli will talk about selecting the right tube bait style and color for this technique. He will also share his thoughts on jighead selection and demonstrate rigging for the best action to trigger bass strikes. Lastly, Iaconelli shares a secret tip for controlling the bait's spiralling action.
How do you snap a tube?
Iaconelli discusses his rod, reel and line preferences for this technique. Mike demonstrates some casts on the lake to demonstrate snapping a tube, and techniques to ensure you detect bites on the fall, which is where you'll often get bites.
