Recent MLF bass fishing tournament winner Skeet Reese joins The Bass University to talk about a technique largely attributed to being invented and developed by Dee Thomas, a West Coast angler. That technique is flipping. Skeet talks about learning to flip on the California Delta, and how intimidating Dee Thomas could be on the water. Skeet estimates that perhaps no other technique has won more money in tournament bass fishing than flipping. Skeet starts by talking about the differences between flipping and pitching, and how it's sometimes important to pick apart cover with flipping.
Skeet also talks about the following key topics concerning the flipping technique:
Left & right handed reels. What part do they play in efficiently flipping accurately and consistently getting good hooksets?
Reel gear ratios - Is 6.3:1 fast enough? How can a reel be too fast?
Flipping & pitching rods - Why is rod length important?
Versatility in flipping. Just because you're flipping doesn't mean you're flipping effectively. See what Skeet says about having multiple rods and baits ready.
Seasonal flipping choices - including Berkley Havoc Skeet's Pit Boss and Berkley Powerbait Maxscent Meaty Chunk Trailer
Hook selection - Why changing your hook will absolutely change your bass landing percentage.
Line selection - fluorocarbon or braid
